iTunes on Ubuntu: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

My sister is trying out Ubuntu and asks “what about my iTunes”? And this is the third time someone asks me about iTunes and Ubuntu. High time for an article on that.

I have bad news, ugly news and good news!

Revolution of Live Television: Mogulus

It was just a matter of time … and here it is, taraaaa … the Revolution of Live Television and it’s named Mogulus. Thank you Robert Medrala, for sending me the link.

Yesterday

Broadcasting was a closed society.Centralized multi-million dollar studios and government regulations made getting on the air a major obstacle.

Today

All you need is Mogulus, the internet, and a webcam, along with your talent and passion to communicate.

Press Freedom

The countries of northern Europe are always the ones who behave best. The exception is Netherlands (12th), which has fallen 12 places because it kept two Telegraaf journalists in custody for two days for refusing to reveal their sources to the judicial authorities.
The 2007 Reporters sans frontières – Annual Worldwide Press Freedom Index is out. In 2006 the Netherlands, as it did in 2005, shared first place with several other (mostly scandinavian) Northern European countries. And we now dropped 12 places. Sjeesj, if we’re not careful we’ll end up in the 40’s range, with the US, who is doing better than last year, yet nowhere near back to its starting place in 2002 (17th place).

Blogging, it’s not just for (US) Americans anymore ;)

So, apparently Blog Writing Month is only for…. (US of) Americans. Gearing up for participating, I completely missed that it is called NaBloWriMo! The Na standing for National, which is, most likely, the USA… Of course it doesn’t say it anywhere explicitly…. Because nobody thought about it!
Dutch Flag, with a background of fluffy white clouds (sheep clouds / schapewolken)
“Originally orange-white-blue, the Dutch flag first appeared in the 17th century as a symbol of the resistance to Spanish rule. The Dutch flag – Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs Being from the Netherlands, I should maybe choose another month to blog every day, as this stake seems to have been claimed already ;) Don’t get me wrong, I go to the US at least twice a year, and I love several Americans (in some places there it seems legal ;) ) Come on, how dense can you be? Besides BloWriMo! would be less letters… International is just simpler.

IP Innovation LLC has just filed a patent infringement claim against Red Hat and Novell. It was filed October 9, case no. 2:2007cv00447, IP Innovation, LLC et al v. Red Hat Inc. et al, in Texas. Where else? The patent troll magnet state. The first ever patent infringement litigation involving Linux. Here’s the patent, for those who can look at it without risk. If in doubt, don’t. Here’s the complaint [PDF]. http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?story=20071011205044141
